Andre Asmar is an amazing producer. You may not have heard of him, or heard his music, but he basically finds a nuanced way to combine all kinds of music from the Third World (not the group) into this crazy urgent collage of sound. Lots of dubby basslines and washy delays, tons of ruk and durbek and other middle eastern percussion, lots of chants and vocal harmonies.
I had the great pleasure of spending the last year with him and his family mixing his record down. In 2004, Andre had a pretty heavy aneurysm that took him out of the game for a bit. He’s still recovering, but he definitely needed some help getting the record mixed and edited. A every few weeks for the last year, I’d head to his house and mix tracks, eat lunch, and hang out with his mom and son and he. It’s been a great year. They’re Palistinian, and as a Jew, we had tons of deep and funny conversations.
His record should be out sometime in the middle of 2009. I have high hopes for it, and when it comes back from mastering, I’ll post a track up here. For now, check out some photos from the past year on my Flickr page.

I shot some flicks for the Stüssy Halloween t-shirt collection last night. They’re up on Hypebeast, looking good, and will probably be up around the web elsewhere soon enough, I’m sure. The shirts drop Friday. The best one, IMHO, is the dub inspired Space Vampire Robot.

3X3. A new Nike ad campaign I’m associated with. The second one for me (thanks Adam!!!). I guess Adam Weissman, who directed these, chopped up some of the music I did for the “Running To Win” spots and made the theme for Coach Hoffman. Best bud Matty Dilmore, new good buddy JD, and myself took in the last game of the season at San Diego’s PETCO Park. It was a beautiful day for a game, and an amazing stadium. We got some scalps and snuck down to the flossy seats behind the first-base line. On the way in, the stadium papparazzos were blowing us up.

The second episode of Pussyfoot. This time, we visit the Bunny Museum in Pasadena and learn the roots of drum ‘n’ bass with freelance philanthropist Wonford St. James. As usual, Blake sees some movies, Eddie gives advice (but this month, live from Berlin!), and Ms. Shelley celebrates life with Obits.

We went to Boulder last weekend to play with Gillis Girl Talk. He talked us out of just heading back to the hotel for a snooze after the show, and it was the best!
